Question Piercing Damage???

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Piercing_damage

Read it, and still don't get it.

is piercing damage just like normal physical damage, except it has the term "piercing" on it? Or does Piercing Damage do something a little different than normal damage?

Piercing is a subset of physical damage - anything that affects physical damage will affect piercing. There are some skills however that affect piercing damage only, other forms of physical damage are not covered by such skills.

Like this: Watch yourself add 20 defence to all pysical dmg, that means slashing, blunt, pieceing and all other kinds of pysical dmg... While a skill like shields up add 50 defence against the Piecening only... Means it wont add defence vs other kinds of Pysical dmg, unless its pieceing..

All piercing damage is physical damage - right from the 1st line.

Hammers are blunt. Most swords and Axes are slashing. These are a few axes that are piercing. Battle Axe, Battlepick, Piercing Axe.
Depending on which you own/use daggers have a good list of either slashing or piercing.

Piercing from a weapon is just normal Physical damage.

Some armors have a defense against a physical attack type too. That means you a some protection against this type and not against the others.

The only difference is with skills like "Shields Up"...otherwise its normal damage. (Did I think of the right skill there? +50 vs piercing?)

Hmm... Intersting. Necro armor (Bonelace & Fanatic) have added defence against piercing. It's just kinda odd because I've been trying to figure out the benefits of using piercing damage or defending against it.

It sounds like it's just Physical damage, but has no added bonus (IE: Armor Penetration & Such).

Thanks for clearing it up

the thing about piercing dmg is that the weapon used against you or the skill would have to be piercing dmg. what i mean by this is if you have a weapon that says piercing you would have the armor. but if you change that to fire that weapon no longer does piercing dmg it will now do elemental dmg. i to this day do not use any armor that adds this as a bonus as that noone really uses piercing dmg weapons they normally have an upgrade to them. also the fact is as a necro you should be running from a warrior or kiting arrows anyway.

BTW Watch Yourself! protects you from 'all' damage that is affected by armour.
